Keep up to date with the SMCB Music Society
Throughout this year of 2016/2017, the Music Society have worked to improve the Music Department, striving to include new students in music and increase Junior involvement. Furthermore, student run 'Lunchtime Recitals' have been a major part of this year's work, having had 4 in total, with a fundraising bun sale at 3 of these. Performances included, Jazz Band, College Training Orchestra, Guitar Group, Chamber Choir and more.
From these bun sales, the Music Society managed to raise an impressive total of £170, which is being kept in the Music Society account, held by the school. Music Society also proposed a 'Store Clean' at the beginning of the year, completed in both November and in late May, with all instrument music organised appropriately and all instruments documented. A possible sale of the record collection held by the school's Music Department was also discussed, and looked into, with approx. £200 offered for all of the records by a local collector's shop in Belfast. This plan was never carried through, leaving this idea to possibly be decided in the future. Plans are to continue the Music Society for the next coming years, to keep student involvement in the music department at a high rate and encourage participation in activities and groups.
